I QUIT!
Sometimes you just need to say it to make the little promise behind it stick because saying it out loud is one step further than thinking it. And if we want to be nit-picky about it, blogging it surely has to be one step further than that.
I QUIT…
Striving for perfection – Because perfect doesn’t really exist and trying to get there is just a giant pain in the ass. Good is good enough in practically every situation (unless you are a brain surgeon or rocket scientist) and getting it done is more important than perfecting it.
Worrying about what other people think – Because the only person who matters is you (and possibly a select few people who you choose). Everyone else does not have permission to weigh in on how you lead your life because it’s your damn life.
Saying YES when we mean NO – Because you and I both know that a reluctant yes turns out worse than just saying no to begin with and being done with it. Just say no and be done with it. You don’t even need to justify why you are saying no.
Staying quiet when something needs to be said – Because things need to be said, sometimes quietly, sometimes very loudly. This is our dang world and we owe it to our future generations to take care of it and that means speaking up (and not worrying about what other people think).
Being busy for the sake of being busy – Because we’re addicted to being busy and feeling like martyrs about it. Stop taking on more than you can handle because you need time for yourself. Life isn’t about checking off to-do’s.
Stressing about stuff that doesn’t matter – Because being stressed out and worried all the time sucks. Don’t do it. Like that fight over a boy who you don’t remember his name, most stuff doesn’t matter given the test of time (and for everything else, apply the not staying quiet rule).
Doing what you think you should do – Because doing stuff you feel pressured to do isn’t what you actually want to do. Stop letting people should all over you. You know exactly what you should and shouldn’t do. Do that and forget the other crap.
Giving up on what you want – Because it’s what you truly want. It’s easy to make excuses about why you aren’t doing it, but you and I both know that’s because it’s a little bit scary. It’s okay to be a little scared, but wisdom tells us we will regret not doing that scary thing eventually.
Whew…doesn’t that feel better?
