Wondering how you can better protect your Facebook profile? Us too! That’s why we pulled together this list of extra security features you may not know about (you’re welcome):
Login Approvals – Adds an extra security feature that requires you enter a special code anytime you try to access your Facebook account from a new computer or mobile device.
> Go to Security Settings (via Settings > Security)
> Select Login Approvals
> Check the Box
> Save Changes.
Recognized Devices – Lets you save the computers and mobile devices you use to access Facebook. You can view and edit the approved list of devices under the Recognized Devices section in Security Settings.
> Login to Facebook
> Choose to add current device to Recognized Devices.
Trusted Contacts – Allows you to designate a list of people who can help you get access to your Facebook account. For example, if you forget your password and can’t get into your email account to reset it.
> Go to Security Settings (via Settings > Security)
> Select Trusted Contacts
> Click Choose Trusted Contacts
> Pick 3 to 5 friends who you trust to help you.
Login Notifications – Sends you an alert every time someone logs into your account from a new place. If you suspect your account has been hacked, you can also use the Active Sessions feature to view a log of the times and locations your account was accessed.
> Go to Security Settings (via Settings > Security)
> Select Login Notifications
> Check the boxes next to the alert types you prefer
> Save changes.
One-Time Passwords – Lets you use an auto-generated, one-time use password anytime you feel uncomfortable entering your real password. For example, when accessing Facebook from a public computer).
> In the US, text 32665 with the message otp
> Use the unique, 8-character temporary password within 20 minutes of receiving the text.
> Users outside the US need to check to see if this feature is supported by their local carriers.
