“Incredible shrinking what?” you ask. Well, if you’ve gone through 9 months of pregnancy and breastfeeding, then you know. Whispers: it’s the incredible shrinking ‘girls’.
Since the tender age of 12 when “We must, we must, we must increase our bust” became the swan song of junior high girls everywhere, women have been (just a wee bit) obsessed with their bust size.
Too small, too big, rarely just right…
Our fascination with our own silhouettes is the foundation of an entire industry (lead by Queen Victoria *Secret* and her wonderful Miracle Bras). Pushed up, pulled together, and padded – women spend an enormous amount of time (and money) on their enhancing their bosom!
Pregnancy and motherhood has it’s…ahem…perks in that department! But beware that what goes up, must (according to the laws of nature) come down. And sometimes that down goes WAY down…if you know what I mean.
What? I didn’t sign up for this!
Motherhood brings with it many things. First smiles, first steps, first words – a world full of joy and pride. It also brings dark circles under your eyes, a eclectic wardrobe adorned with miscellaneous shmoo, and a body that just isn’t the same (and of course, the irreversible changes to the girls except by medical intervention).
So long to the days of disco
The first days, weeks, months after my daughter was born meant less time for me. A LOT less. Forget fancy hairdos, seductive smoky eyes, a freshly pressed power suit and manicured fingernails. Showering before my husband got home at 5 o’clock was a special occasion.
Getting your mojo back…
Kicks off the yoga pants and break out the lip gloss, even if it’s just to dance with your toddler in your living room. It’s about embracing motherhood, and celebrating the sexy, savvy woman you know is hiding under the shmoo and cat fur. She’s in there, mommy – you just need to bring her out!
Your Mommy Mojo Dare: Put on that Little Black Dress and sexy sandals and paint the town red (because mommy, you deserve a break!).

Oh, I love this one Carla! When I was pregnant with my first I gained a LOT of weight. I asked my midwife, “now all this can come off right?” lol and she replied “well sure, but your body will never be the same.”. Huh, I wondered as I walked waddled out of her office! Now, 3 kids later I GET IT. But damn it, Iost the weight and now it is just what it is! I put on my little black dress and am a proud mommy! gravity will not stop me! ha!
Oh yes, I gained 60 lbs and three cup sizes with my 1st pregnancy. This post is awesome! 60 pounds etc in a couple of months is not a pretty aftermath, let me tell you… Yes, I can certainly identify with what goes up must come down! LOL.
But I love this post because so many moms beat themselves up about gaining weight or losing their pre-baby figure instead of wearing these items as a badge of honor to some degree. My stomach is trashed (split abdominal muscles, stretch marks, sagging skin, discoloration) from three full term pregnancies and I have gone to the doctor see what can be done to fix it, BUT I decided that it’s not worth the risk and I don’t want to send a message to my daughters that I want to erase or cover up any part of their history. It’s my body, our history and really… its not that bad. Actually, with a one piece on, it’s pretty darn good if I do say so myself. 😉
So, just as you mentioned… I agree with the celebration mentality when it comes to motherhood. Moms are amazing. Look what we can do with our bodies!!! Why do anything other than embrace that in ourselves? Have fun dance parties! Smile, laugh, love and be merry! Motherhood may have it’s ups and downs, but if you are fortunate enough to fall into this category, you’re pretty darn lucky. 🙂 Especially since we have fun places like MOMeo to celebrate this gift!
