Running a business involves trial and error. From these lessons, you hone the ability to learn from your mistakes and keep moving forward. But what if you could take what you learned and go back in time and start again? Hindsight is 20/20 after all!
So, we wanted to know, if you could start your business over, what would you do different?
Kristina Vanderwater Bouncing Off The Walls
“I would have hired an accountant right from the start. Too many hours wasted on something that is my biggest weakness could have been better spent on other things!”
Terrill D Young Passion Parties
“ I’m working with my husband to launch his business and if I could go back, I would have diversified my marketing sooner and spent more time on that right from the start. Now, I’m playing catch up.”
Marilou Basa Innocent Earth
“That’s easy. I would have coughed up an extra 40% for building my website/shopping cart properly the FIRST time. Had I trusted my instincts and went with my first choice, I would not have gone through TWO rebuilds. It was the initial cost that made me hesitate, but after all the tweaking, I would have saved more time and money with the first quote. I guess the 3rd time is a charm.”

“If I could start my business over again, there are a few things I would do differently. I would start with BALANCE, I would have a family meeting to ensure my career, marriage, and family were on the same page. I’ve learned to communicate more from my heart and I never make decisions without seeking support and wise counsel.”
Angela King Entrepreneurial Moms International – Chapter Leader Calgary
“When my husband and I started our first business, to have a better system for customer relations and staying on top of customer needs/tasks.”
Marci Birnie Arbonne
“I would have asked people to join my business sooner. I focused mainly on selling products rather than the business opportunity.”
Michelle Sharp-Benson Stir Crazy Family Fun Centre
“Though I do not live my life with regret if I could start my business over again I would do two things differently.
I would take confidentiality even more seriously than I did the first time around. A good idea is a good idea and it’s worth protecting as much as possible.
The second would be to take some sort of workshop to prepare me for hiring and managing a team. It is a huge step to share your vision/passion with the world and train a team to bring it to life daily. Many challenges come with this both personally and professionally but I believe all can be overcome with education, experience and a willingness to trust.”
