It’s happened to all of us – at the end of a long work week balancing business and the day-to-day duties of managing a household, you plug in what you think will be a ‘family-friendly’ movie only to find out halfway through that it terrifies your toddler and gives your 6-year-old new nightmare topics to worry about at bedtime. So much for a relaxing family evening.
That’s why we’re thrilled to to bring you our new feature column, Family Night In by Family Values Cinema. Tune in every week to find a new suggestion for a Friday night movie approved by the National Board of Mothers plus a recipe and ideas for family-friendly entertainment.
Family Night In! Halloween Edition
Since this weekend is Halloween it seemed appropriate to have a movie filled with imagination. We as moms all struggle to find appropriate movies that our kids enjoy, but are also entertaining for us. I am so fortunate to work with many great moms who volunteer their time to rummage through thousands of movies in order to provide us busy moms with family friendly DVD options. Our first movie for this week is Impy’s Island.
Impy’s Island
Synopsis: A delightful animated adventure portraying acceptance, friendship and love.
Running Time: 80 minutes
Year: 2007
Impy’s Island is a great animated feature that teaches good morals and life lessons. Read what a few of these moms had to say:
Kimberly says…”Adorable!!! A great film. I loved it! This is a “keeper”.
Christine says…”Wonderful portrait of families”
Lori says…”Will hook children from the beginning. I had never heard of this movie. A real find!”
Katie says…”This movie portrays how a mom’s love will conquer any obstacle”
Yvonne says…”The story line was sweet and showed the importance of family and accepting someone into your circle of friends and/or family. Working together to solve a problem”.
What better to go with a fun imagination filled movie for Halloween than to add a fun recipe, so we have created an easy kid-friendly option:
Island Fruit Smoothie
The Cast:
• 6 large strawberries (fresh or frozen)
• 1 banana
• ½ cup orange juice
• I cup yogurt (preferably strawberry)
Makes 1 smoothie
The Script:
Blend the strawberries, banana, orange juice and yogurt together until smooth. For a more slushy consistency add a cup of ice cubes and blend on high.
For fun, top your smoothie with a fruit kabob on a straw.
That’s a wrap for me for the week. I hope you enjoy Impy’s Island and the Island Fruit Soothie. I look forward to having you visit us again next week. If you have any comments or feedback on things you would like me to see here I would love to hear all your ideas!
Thanks!
Patty
