Creating change in your life or business can feel like an uphill battle. It is easy to end up feeling stuck, frustrated and overwhelmed with it all. But there are things you can do to manage those challenges and set yourself up to succeed. So what are some things you can do to give the change you want to achieve the best chances of success?
How to Create Change in Your Business or Life:
Get crystal clear on the exact results you want to achieve before you start creating change
Many people know they want to change something. But they aren’t always clear on the exact results they want. For example, you might know you want to work less hours, or get better business results, or feel more in control of your life. But what EXACTLY does that look like? What are the outcomes you specifically want?
Just knowing you want to change something isn’t enough to successfully achieve that change. You have to be crystal clear on the outcome you want to create. The more specific you are about the exact results you want the change to achieve, the more specific your action plan will be. The more specific your action plan is the more specific your results will be.
Take some time to get as specific as you can on the outcome you want to achieve before you start creating change. Use that to drive your action plans.
Ask yourself “What do I need to learn to achieve this change?”
When you are thinking about changing something, you need to learn what things will help you make it happen, right? Yet so many people go steaming into creating change without doing any learning first. As a result, creating change feels like a struggle and the desired results are at risk of not being achieved.
To increase your chances of creating change successfully, become committed to continuous learning.
Ask yourself, “Who do I need to BE to achieve this change?”
One of the areas people most overlook when embarking on creating change is themselves – who they need to “be” to make that change happen. I am not suggesting you need to go changing your personality or morph into someone else! What I am suggesting is that you need to create some awareness about the mindset, habits and behaviours that are required to create the change you want.
For example, if you want to work less hours you might need to become a lot more effective in terms of your focus, time management, productivity, self discipline, etc. Have a think about the personal effectiveness, habits, behaviours and mindset of people who have achieved the change you would like to make happen. Which do you need to foster in your own life and business?
You can do all the planning and preparing you like to set yourself up to succeed when creating change, but unless you know the personal attributes you need to foster to make it all happen you could be risking not achieving the change you really want.
Who you are “being” in a situation has a dramatic impact on the outcome so commit to improving your own personal effectiveness and embrace personal development.
Those are just a few pointers to get you started on the path to increase your chances of success when creating change. What others would you add to this list?
