Are you a dreamer or a doer? Making your own Bucket List requires a bit of both.
First, you owe it to yourself to be honest with your dreams. What does that mean? There’s no point in even thinking about an ultimate to-do list if you’re just going to make a generic list.
If you have zero interest in, say, skydiving – don’t feel obligated to try it. On the other hand, if you’ve always felt romantic about the South Pacific – well, there you go. You have your first item.
That’s the dreaming. The real key to Bucket Lists, though, is the doing. It’s all well and good to write down a bunch of pie-in-the-sky stuff you wanna do. It’s like being five and asking Santa for a pony.
The point of making a Bucket List is doing it. It’s not about anything morbid like confronting your own mortality – yuck! It’s about celebrating your individuality.
It’s the most wonderful and personal list you’ll ever make.
The LIST…
Hike through a slot canyon
Drive a racecar
Publish a bestselling book
Go whale watching from a sea kayak
Take a cooking class from Cordon Bleu Culinary School in Paris
Live on a beach for a summer (house optional)
Watch flowing lava from a helicopter

Whew…that ought to keep me out of trouble for a while.
What would you put on your Bucket List? Join me in moving from dreaming to doing!

Explore the Galapagos Islands <– also on my bucket list
woo-HOO! #thingsthatareawesome
I love all the pictures I've seen of slot canyons. I will *so* go with you to Zion Canyon AND the Galapagos Islands!
Setting the intention…
Oh! Explore the Galapagos Islands – that's got to go on mine too! Love your list Carla – fun way to spend the weekend!
Circus camp! I want to add that to my list now! Bucket lists rock!
Love this:-) I do something with a couple of girlfriends called “Bucket Fridays” and each week we throw out ideas and pick one to do for the afternoon…now these aren't anything extravagant (things like: go to a local winery, pack a lunch and take the pontoon boat out on the river, go to a new restaurant, go roller skating…things like that), but it's a TON of fun and reminds of us of how “the little things” can so enrich our lives:-) Now onto the BIG bucket list…here are a few of mine:
Galapagos Islands is definitely on mine (this sounds like a girls trip to me!)
Learn to surf
Salsadance
Take a bikram yoga class for 30 days straight
Go to an ecofriendly retreat in Costa Rica
Drink a latte at an outside cafe in Venice
Drive a racecar
Ride in an F14
Pet a koala bear
Attend circus camp
Hula dance in Hawaii
Have a spa weekend with girlfriends in Arizona
Own a boutique hotel in Costa Rica
Publish a best seller
oh, I could go on and on….sounds like we've got LOTS to do ladies!
That one has been on my list for a long time!
Wouldn't Circus Camp be a blast?
That's a fabulous idea: Bucket Fridays!
Thank you for sharing your list, Danielle! I forgot about learning to Salsa dance. I just started taking ballet again this year!
Let's make 2010 and on ROCK!
I just created mine a couple weeks ago after reading Elizabeth's blog and being inspired. The problem is mine was not very long, but I guess I can always keep adding to it. So I only have 8 things on it, but I'm always going to be adding to it. For some reason my husband was making fun of me for this list. Not for the list itself but calling it a bucket list, because I'm so far away from kicking the bucket! But I think he is missing the point of the list 🙂
Here's my entire list!
1) Travel & explore Australia
2) Learn to salsa dance- already doing this one now!
3) Travel & explore awaii
4) Write a book (working on this one now too)
5) Put on a live event
6) Ride the wine train & tour wineries in California
7) Swim with dolphins
8) Take a flying lesson
Thanks for sharing yours Carla, so inspiring!
I'm down with that! 🙂 Isn't life just so damn amazing!
Jen, it's your Bucket List so it can be whatever it wants!
I'm planning on adding to mine as I go. I'd hate to miss out on an adventure because I didn't think of it when I wrote the list!
woo-HOO!
I am glad to see this. I have been working on mine now for the past few weeks and will soon be posting it on my blog at the http://www.theavestylist.blogspot.com It is great to read and share with others. It gives me even more inspiration to see, do, and achieve more goals!
Thanks for sharing!
Also Bucket Friday’s is a wonderful idea!
I had no idea what a real MOMeo inspired bucket list was until now. I mean, I have heard of bucket lists (and I even slept through the movie on a plane ride) but, now you have inspired me, Carla! Adventure, professional goals, relationship goals, travel… just thinking about it brings up so much inspiration! It is time to put mine together once and for all.
Starting with…
Build a seven figure business helping moms start their first passion-based lifestyle businesses!
Thanks for leading the way, yet again Carla! You are a true visionary.
Thanks for sharing this post Carla – great idea to make a bucket list! My nearly 8 yo son and I decided to add visiting the Taj Mahal to our list (he's been building the Lego Taj Mahal!). I'm going to engage our whole family in making lists – should be fun!
I forgot 2 really important ones!
Be on the Amazing Race
Go to the Olympics
**the list keeps growing!
Ok I have to ask what is a net zero house?
I have a few things I would love to do and one is coming up in November. I want to go to the Web 2.0 conference in CA. I know for some folks going to conferences sometimes seems mundane but I actually love going to them. You get to see such a variety of people and experience so many things that you normally don't get to do in normal every day life.
I have seen just about every rock act I have really wanted to see except Rob Zombie so that is on my LIST.
I would love to take a top fuel car down the strip.
I want to see the infamous Elenor from Gone in 60 Seconds and get to drive her.
I want to take a hiking trip in another state that has mountains. Kansas is flat not much to hike here.
I would love to have a winter house in the desert of Arizona.
Most of all I would like to get my hand reconstructed so I can use it like a normal person again. It has been 6 yrs or so since I have been able to close my hand. Otherwise being able to do all of these things is meaningless.
Funny…it never occurred to me that a Bucket List wouldn't include all those things!
woo-HOO to your goal!
What a fantastic idea, Nancy! I am going to work on a family bucket list with my husband and daughter too!
And it should! I'll let you know how the Olympics goes…doing that next week!!!
A net zero house is an eco-friendly house that nets out to zero in terms of energy consumed. It's a Bucket List goal that I share with my engineer husband who is far more technically inclined than I am on the subject.
A quote for all the brave souls who are joining me in publishing their Bucket List:
“It takes a lot of courage to show your dreams to someone else.”
– Erma Bombeck
Love it!
well that is pretty cool you will have to chronicle that for us when it happens I would love to see your progress as well as thought processes
It would give all of us more inspiration to do the same.
Watching my country win GOLD at the Olympics wasn't officially on my Bucket List, but what an amazing experience! Watch for my video blog documenting the adventure!
